ENGINEER INTERN - Transportation & Utility Design
SUMMARY:
Junior Engineering position that assists Project Managers and Project Engineers with design and planning detailed construction drawings, and related specifications used in planning and construction of civil engineering projects and/or transportation projects and other technical activities by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work under supervision of a project manager/engineer or senior-level team member
Performs professional engineering work in own specialty requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures on routine tasks and a limited number of semi-routine, somewhat complex tasks.
Assists Project Managers and Project Engineers in corresponding with Clients, Agencies, other internal departments, and other Consultants and Sub-Consultants throughout the project.
Provides data and guidance to design technicians in the office.
Assists Project Managers and Project Engineers in obtaining required government agency approvals and secures permits as required.
Performs engineering calculations and CAD drafting/design. AutoCad Civil 3D and/or Microstation/Inroads preferred but not required.
Must be flexible in learning and applying CAD Standards and procedures.
Gathers data for engineering analysis through phone contacts and written correspondence.
Assists Project Managers and Project Engineers in developing concept design and final project design.
Participates in preparation of construction drawings and contract specifications.
Prepares preliminary and final cost estimates.
Evaluate shop drawings.
Assigned to "small" projects or component portions of major projects to gain experience in Project Engineering.
Accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four-year (4) college or university, Engineering Intern certificate/license preferred.,. Educational and experience emphasis in Transportation or Utilities.
