Utility Locator/Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician
The Utility Locator/Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician supports SUE projects by locating, designating, and documenting underground utilities using geophysical equipment and field investigation methods. This role is responsible for accurate data collection, quality documentation, and coordination with project teams to reduce utility conflicts and support safe, efficient project delivery..
Key Responsibilities
-
Perform field investigations to locate and designate existing underground utilities in accordance with ASCE 38 standards
Operate and maintain SUE equipment including electromagnetic locators, ground penetrating radar (GPR), and vacuum excavation (when applicable)
Identify, mark, and document underground utilities using standard color codes and project specifications
Collect accurate field data, measurements, sketches, and photographs for use in CAD and GIS mapping
Assist with utility quality level assignments (QL-D, QL-C, QL-B, QL-A)
Coordinate with survey crews, engineers, project managers, and utility owners as needed
Read and interpret utility records, plans, and maps
Maintain clear, organized field notes and daily reports
Follow all safety policies, traffic control requirements, and jobsite procedures
Assist with test hole operations and daylighting activities under supervision
Ensure proper care, calibration, and storage of field equipment
Support multiple projects and travel to job sites as required

Assist with training junior technicians or field staff
Support survey or construction services teams during peak workloads
Participate in project meetings or utility coordination efforts as requested

High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in SUE, utility locating, surveying, or related field work preferred
Knowledge of underground utility systems (water, sewer, gas, electric, communications, fiber, etc.)
Familiarity with ASCE 38 standards (or willingness to learn)
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

SUE certification or utility locating certification
Experience with GPR and electromagnetic locating equipment
Basic understanding of surveying principles and CAD deliverables
Prior experience working around construction sites or roadway projects

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift equipment up to 50 pounds
Ability to work in confined spaces, uneven terrain, and near active roadways
Ability to wear required PPE including safety vests, hard hats, and steel-toe boots

Accountant
SJB Group, LLC is seeking an Accountant to be a key member of the finance team in an Engineering and Land Surveying Firm. This role is responsible for handling all aspects of the accounting function, from day-to-day transactional work to month-end close and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working independently while supporting multiple departments and projects.
This position requires a strong understanding of professional services accounting, including project costing, timekeeping, invoicing, and compliance requirements common to engineering and land surveying operations.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate coding of all transactions
Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities
Prepare journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedules
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management

Process vendor invoices and employee reimbursements

SJB Group is seeking an Entry-Level Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to join our growing Survey Department. This position is ideal for a motivated individual who recently obtained their PLS license or is nearing licensure and eager to advance their career in a collaborative, field-and-office-integrated environment. The PLS will assist in managing projects, performing survey calculations, and supporting field crews on boundary, topographic, ALTA, right-of-way, and construction surveys.
Key Responsibilities

Support senior PLS and project managers in planning, coordinating, and executing survey projects.
Perform survey calculations, boundary analysis, and data adjustments using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software.
Prepare plats, legal descriptions, and other deliverables in accordance with Louisiana standards.
Conduct QA/QC on survey data and ensure accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
Collaborate with field crews to communicate project requirements and resolve technical issues.

Work as a member of a survey crew performing Boundary Surveys, Topographic Surveys, ALTA Surveys, Right-of-Way Surveys, and Construction Stakeout.
Key Responsibilities

Assist Party Chiefs and other crew members in collecting field data.
Operate equipment in support of Party Chief/crew.
Perform calculations and corrections.
Record measurements and descriptive data.
Search for section corners, property stakes, and survey points.
Load and unload equipment.

Lead a survey crew in accurately and safely performing field work, taking measurements, performing calculations, reviewing job specifications and plans, and submitting accurate and complete field data.

Civil CAD/MicroStation Technician
Work closely with Project Engineers and Project Managers to obtain project information and ensure that drawings are accurate, consistent, and complete. This may include complex drafting assignments that must comply with applicable industry standards and codes. These projects will primarily include drainage, sewer, water, paving, grading, and site layout plans for land development and municipal projects.
Key Responsibilities

Review rough sketches, drawings, and other engineering data received from clients, Civil Engineer, or Project Manager.
Create detailed engineering designs and construction drawings, then prepare drawings for proposed improvements such as roads, bridges, drainage systems, water and sewer facilities, and land development projects under the direction of the Civil Engineer or Project Manager.
Assist in the analysis and preparation of reports, maps, drawings, plans, and other items to plan and design project.
Assist in the design and layout of engineering projects using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
Provide suggestions and feedback to civil engineers for appropriate design changes.
Mentor less experienced drafting personnel.
